A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

An Overedited Copy of the Manuscript

i am a rewrite
a revision
an author of a life
pages fading
plot thinning

poetry is my faith
a pen is my rosary
i refuse AI
i have to do it on my own
even if the words start running from me

i will forever chase
dreams and themes
and schemes
as they turn into books
a published life

plot thinning
pages fading

soon i will just be a cover
with no insides to market
a rewrite that is blank
a revision that is less
i had able rhymes once
i had fable metaphors more than twice

i sit in an imaginary pew
perusing the statues, the paintings on the walls
pen in hand
fingers intwined in prayer
trying to understand the amens
and why i am holding a poetry book
instead of a missal

forever chasing
dreams, themes and errant schemes.

“poetry is my faith
A pen is my rosary”

You can write, my friend. So many great lines; I read and reread, read again. And I relate to your theme.

I appreciate you, Michael.

If you are just a book cover Jacob, then the rest of us must be the out of date ticket stub holding the place of where the last reader gave in to slumber.
Even then, I am only the random number scribbled on the back of that ticket stub that everyone has forgotten its meaning. I mean, 721 is too short for a phone number. Maybe I am a combination to lost millions in a bank vault, but more likely just a wet towel and soggy swimming trunks in a rusted locker at the swimming pool! 😃

Crap, I just got out of the water and remembered I left my towel in the changing room.
