Ideas Blossoming into Black Roses

Ideas Blossoming into Black Roses

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Ideas Blossoming into Black Roses

foraging in unearthly realms

I find unformed lines of poetry

waiting for a touch of genius

to expose them to the light

but when there is only

average intellect

and short-changed rhyme

perhaps the lines

would prefer being left in the shadows

of the brain

as simply

passing thoughts

that remain implication

rather than

emulsification.

This is lovely to read. “ unformed lines, waiting for a touch of genius” feels very relatable. A sweet and humble poem !

I enjoyed reading this poem, Jacob, perhaps because I have a whole notebook filled with "Black Roses". They are pressed between the pages, and I occasionally look and hold one of these roses wondering, what the hell was I thinking. I keep these roses to remind me that just because words exist, doesn't mean that all fit together in rhythm, and just like in life, not everything works out the way you imagine it should. Reality is a hard task master, it doesn't cooperate or even care what we think or want. But, I keep them also because they also help me to understand better how to arrange words and ideas that do lead to poems that are worthwhile and hopefully create ART.

I guess this is a more philosophical approach to your poem Jacob, but for me, I often find your poetry, even the ones you may consider "Black Roses", takes me to the part of my brain where philosophy and art mingle and play. Whether straight forward, or as metaphor, this is a gift you have, and I appreciate it muchly.
