a Partner's Promise

a Partner's Promise

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a Partner's Promise

I assure you

the lightning will whinny

like a frightened mare

you will walk untouched

through the flying debris

the winds will bow at your feet

like a Lady Godiva

trotting through the city

there will be posters and flags

time will undress the moment

for your pleasure

you will see me darkening in the crowd

silence will be in your eyes

the lightning will gain confidence

dodging the blind side

you will regain

confidence

and twist again

just like last summer.

Something of a pep talk here. The speaker seeks to reassure the beloved that things will be OK after all. The partner assures her she will twist again. I sincerely hope he can deliver.

Twisting made me think of a tornado and so are some relationships but here it may well be the dance more than anything else. Well written my friend

"we're gonna keep on twisting, til we tear the house down"... seems like it was not only Chubby who loved to dance. You Jacob have the 'moves", Bandstand Twistin' with the one you love!!! Your poetry is pretty smooth too!!

Thanks for these comments which I really appreciate it, since I do love to dance.

What a marvelous supportive write. What a partner. Strong where there appears to be vulnerability. I love the mention of Lady Godiva. Have seen her statue in the city of Coventry, know all about her. I also like very much the song reference and dancing to the twist. Great poem j. Fabulous title. Have a lovely Sunday.

Hello j, this just took the breath away. I read it to be saying 'I’ll stay with you through chaos and vulnerability. You’ll survive it, regain yourself, and return to me ~just as you always have before.' 🙏🕊️
