Thump

Thump

Thump (Part 1)

Erin L George

When a thump in the night is so much more:

Thump, thump, thump! He drills that w***e.

Ahhhhh! cries she, to kiss the nighttime sky

in moments sewn on fantasy

where strange men care of thoughts that she

bring to bed; cathartic dream.

(interrupted by dollar bills)

Thrown on nightstands, motel bleeds

lint seeded, unfamiliar spots.

Juvenile rap sheets wrapping her distain

in nothing more than silent tears -

dry heat sweats to hide her fears:

She jumps at sounds in darkness.

Thump (Part 2)

Erin L George

Thump, thump, thump puts her to sleep:

Alleyway where headlights beam

a thump, thump, thump!

Drummers nail a builder's tune -

she cries for mercy at their plea

and weeps in perfect harmony.

Thump, thump, thump -

heart pumping heat

to warm her thighs

warm her face

warm her eyes.

Plastic now in rhythms lost

she shuts her lids

and waits for day

where thumping stops -

sunny rays

naked cheeks

lip gloss, jeans, the PTA.
