Farewell, My Dear Friend

(And Don't Forget the Bacon)

by Erin L George

Do you remember dancing

to Pat Benatar?

I squaked til my lungs bled

while you stroked the guitar.

You never came to visit me.

You're a real tough cookie

with a long history -

breakin' little hearts,

like the one in me.

Well, my dear friend

I've news for you:

Dixie Chicks, horses -

my prince has come through!

Do you remember the receipt

I found,

covered in muck -

on the bathroom floor?

I found it just after we fucked.

I'm a heart breaker

(dream maker).

It's just not your dreams

I seek to see through.

Do you remember

you'd gaze in my eyes,

telling me I was "the one"

when your belly was full?

I did the dishes alone.

The Tide is High

but I'm movin' on.

I'm (not) gonna be

your number one.

Farewell, my dear friend

I'm movin' on -

I'm not the kinda girl

who gives up just like that,

oh, no-oooo!
