The Turtle, the Tattoo, and the Clavicle

"

It's amazing how three very different things can pull together to express the the same emotions.

The Turtle, the Tattoo, and the Clavicle

by Erin L George

I wake,

sweating,

marching -

to the beat of my heart

and

my chest whistles.

There's a turtle on my pillow -

flourescent green -

it winks at darkness

in a room so cold.

They say -

"everyone has at least one

tattoo they regret."

And I wonder,

sleepless -

what are your regrets?

was it falling in love?

or having your heart ripped out

with a butterknife?

It was in a movie -

"kill the heart,

kill the problem."

And,

you know,

I've never been any good

at quoting movies.

I fall into sleep -

kissing the darkness

unafraid,

and

itching my clavicle,

wondering -

does yours still hurt?

I broke mine once too.
