Broken

This was actually written for my wife (yes, I am a woman and I said wife.) when I left on my last deployment. (point of clarification - I am in the US Navy)

I could feel my heart breaking
as I slowly slipped away
I waved goodbye, missing you already
and the tears just stung my face.

the distance just grew further
and the ache a burning need
and the tears still fall so often
they've left stains upon my cheeks

my heart still lies in pieces
scattered in my shattered soul
and every breath I breathe is one closer
till you can make me whole.

Being separated from the one you love is really painful. Knowing that she is also depressed about the distance between you two actually breaks your heart. I loved how you described the feeling. Your brilliant choice of words make the readers feel the pain that you were feeling when you were writing this poem. Great write. :)
