Ascending

Ascending

A Poem by Eve

Down a moonlit path,

across the deep blue air,

there stood an elegant girl,

tall and thin and fair.

As I then approached her,

I saw tears were in her eyes.

I offered her my hand

and took her hand in mine.

I then wiped her eyes.

For she knew her troubles were through.

“Come with me,” I said,

“All you have heard is true.”

Alas, she took my word,

and I, I took her life.

Together we rose on,

her black frock becoming white.

Together we ascended

at a brisk yet steady pace.

For me she gave her life.

For her I gave my grace.
