48 hours pupae

48 hours pupae

A Poem by Alexandra
"

This poem talks about the complexity of friendships between girls and their lasting impact, the central theme is the passage of time, with a hint of irony.

"

Cardboard boxes

Underneath buzz-cut barbies

a gift from my former, former, former best friend:

a sheet of butterfly tattoos.

May 28th, 2012

among rainbow tassel decorations

in fuchsia ink, she writes:

“Us girls, we’re thick as thieves.

Here's to forever.”

22 years old,

about 200 tubes of cherry lipgloss later,

I press a monarch to my hipbone

then a water-soaked sponge.

Childhood baptism,

these 48 hours pupae:

two showers to wash off,

a lifetime to forget.

A beautiful poem on friendship. This is the kind of poetry I love to read and aspire to learn to write. Loved it.

I love this poem. Us girls, we really are all thick as thieves, huh? Our pupae friendships stick to us for life; I was just thinking of one of mine. It's simplistic but not lacking, well done

A happy look back that's carried inside you - perhaps forever. Early day' friendships are special, just sometimes unhappy but generally wonderful and can outlast life for many. Some of my friends go back to pre.school.. that goes back over forty years. Who knows maybe we're still a touch childish or.. just good and everlasting buddies!!! Your poem reads so sweetly sincere, consequently was/is a pleasure to read!

'“Us girls, we’re thick as thieves.
Here's to forever.”

22 years old,
about 200 tubes of cherry lipgloss later,'

Grazie mille.
