Into the Sea
By: Ethan West

In a violent storm on bitter breeze
A ship of broken, battered trees

A man of steel, weathers the storm
Brutal, calm, but inside he’s warm

He chose a ship of battered tree
He chose to face the brazen sea

He chose to stay
On faith they say

That if he gave this ship his steel
The ship would rise and match his zeal

And in that union they world form
A ship to weather any storm

But instead, the ship grew strong
Before he knew it, he was gone

For it was not the sea, that men should fear
But that of the ship, they try to steer

For while he gave, the ship gave none
Took all he had, took all he won

And as his broken form
Stood pierced with wood, his heart adorned

The ship opened up, and carried me
Dropped me down, into the sea

When I was a young soldier station at Fort Ord, California. I suicided boarded the Winter storms. I learn if we respect the sea. She won't kill you. I liked the use of wood and metal in the poetry. I believe we can befriend the sea, man or boat. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry. I need a year near the Pacific to write my book.

These two lines here: "For it was not the sea, that men should fear
But that of the ship, they try to steer", hit me somewhere deep inside my soul. There's something to be said about things you try to control, whether it be your life, your destiny... the things around you. There's an inherent fear that cannot be shaken. I adore this poem and I'm glad I stumbled across it!

This gives me a feeling of battling storms in the ocean, it's currents are cruel and violent.. And being strong to hold your ground, the storm shall passed, it applies to life as well. Our hardship is our stepping ground to head something beautiful in the end.
Wonderful work.
