DiscriminateA Poem by Barbara Walker
I could hit home runs, throw hard and fast and longed to wear the uniform of Little league, but when I asked, they said, "No." I had good grades in school and longed to be on Safety Patrol, but when I asked, they said, "No." I longed to make things out of wood and needed tools, but when I asked, they said, No." I loved hiking and climbing mountainsides and needed boots, but when I asked, they said, "No". Each and every time they said, "No", they crushed the capable, yearning spirit within me, as they said, "You can't because you're a girl"!
