PrologueA Chapter by ClayreAn idea I had
John Donne always said "Death be not proud."
And when I really think about it, I guess he's right. Death's not proud, at all. It's no swaggering schoolyard bully hanging around to steal lunch money, or pencils, or someone's life. Then again, it's not weak or anything like that. You'll find Death hanging around the weak, like a hanging cough, but it's certainly not weak itself. No, I'd say that Death is quiet. Death is discreet. Death is always around, but it never seems to scream its presence. It doesn't need to. It's already there. Death isn't really anything other than sleeping. Just a lovely, long nap. Close your eyes, say your prayers, and you're out. No one can wake you. It's a lovely, eternal nothingness of sleep. There's only one issue with sleep. You have to wake up.
