Looking Back on Friendship

It seemed liked not so long ago,
But now it’s been years,
Though everything was put to rest,
I can never dry the tears.

It was never a clean break,
And you just walked away,
And everyday my heart aches,
When I remembered how you’d say:

“We’ll be best friends forever,
We’ll never fall apart,”
Ironic how we said these things…
We thought were from the heart…

It hurts so much when I think about it,
How I just watched you as you walked away,
I thought that we would always be friends,
I thought that’s what you said…

But I don’t need to look back,
There’s nothing for me there,
Just pain, and hurt, and misery,
And things that just aren’t fair…

I lose myself sometimes,
Still dwelling on the past,
Wishing that somehow, some way,
Things would always last…

Such childish thoughts,
Still hindering my mind,
Answers I sought,
I did not find…
