Mommy, Wake Up.

It's dark again, 

The sun has gone down.

The lights are all off,

And there's not a sound.

I whisper to mommy,

Can we turn on the lights?

No, my dear child,

We'll just sleep through the night.

But I'm hungry mommy,

And I can't see at all.

I know, my sweet child,

But the food's in the hall.

I let out a sigh,

Mommy was right.

We'll just have to wait,

And put up a fight. 

My tummy was grumbling,

I told it to shush.

I should just sleep now,

Hush hush...

I opened my eyes,

Covered my face.

I was on the hard floor,

Wrapped in the sun's embrace.

I turned over to mommy,

Tapped her on the shoulder.

It's light now mommy,

Let's move before it gets colder.

Mommy didn't stir,

Didn't let out a sigh.

I tapped her again,

My throat was all dry.

Mommy? 

Mommy, wake up!

I turned her over,

Looked at her close up.

She wasn't breathing,

Her face was all pale.

I called to her and shook her,

All to no avail. 

Mommy?

I felt tears in my eyes.

Don't leave me mommy.

I tried to not cry.

He came in then,

Flung open the door.

Glared at mom and I,

Together on the floor.

What are you doing?

Get to your work!

Mommy is dead!

You big fat jerk!

He took a step back,

Then rushed back outside.

I guess he knew the reason,

For why mommy died. 

I stayed there with mom,

Cried till my eyes were dry.

I waited till dusk,

To say my goodbyes.

Just a random poem? Are you kidding me! Is this in any sense autobiographical and if not what inspired you? It’s a great poem, so immediate and real, but such a dark subject, dark story, please where from within you did this emerge?

I honestly can no longer recall... I think at this time I was really immersed in creative writing and this image came to mind after doing a bunch of different readings...

No apology needed! I had forgotten the original impact this poem made. It has a feel of authenticity even though apparently fictional. I see now, based upon other reviews dated 11 and 12 years ago, that a different, younger you wrote this.
