no name #2

no name #2

A Poem by Everett Dulin

in my experience
there are two kinds of loss
one is shattering, debilitating
reducing you to only a name

and the other feels just about the same

though they sound
deceivingly, horribly similar
there is but
one key difference

it depends on who dies that day
or on the offchance
not one will die at all
and that one is slow

and deceptively soft

just know, that each
either, whichever,
ending comes to be
exposed, screaming

they will rot and
tear at, rip at,
and choke you with
your own vocal cords

it'll happen all the same

and loss is a hell of a ride.
