The Lake's Dry of August

The Lake's Dry of August

A Story by F.S.D. Thrush

The boy stepped out onto the white porch from the small wooden door and looked out unto the lake not far from the house, A sunny day with trees and mountains of Springville, California, surrounding it.

The boy went to a small dock where the boat was; He unloaded a soda, thermos, chips, and his German Shepard into it. The boy undocked and their adventure had begun.

The boy knew the lake well and maneuvered pass the moss clumps and was good with resistance so he was able to pull the boat along fast and in a few minutes they were getting out together.

The boy got out with his food and he and the dog walked into the woods, dry of August and shady still. The boy went deeper on the trail before sitting down and unloading the thermos and soda; He drank soup his mother made from one and the soda in the other before playing with the dog and giving him a treat. He ate the chips and then went back to shore, just in time to catch the Saturday cartoons.
