waldosiaA Chapter by freelancejousterand that sleek little car always reminds me of you,
black and shining and smooth,
though yours is older now.
broken, and sold to some yard,
where they wrecked it more,
than you could have ever hoped to.
and i'll see a flutter of hair,
the way yours used to do,
along the river,
when you would kick my little butt
at skipping rocks
until i'd push you in,
and you'd pull me with you.
but that was countless summers ago.
the last time i saw your face was...
oh, i suppose it's been about a year now,
powdery makeup
doing its best
to give you the glow of the living
while your soul had drifted off
to somewhere else.
and everything reminds me of you.
you're not gone, though,
you can't possibly be,
because i still see you everywhere.
