Power

Power

A Poem by Funmi Elizabeth Olaiya

Started with a gentle life

With the coolest smile

Hoping for the next style

Who's going to pay a price?

I got there&had it

Drunk with it

Wanting to die with it

It becomes a game of life and death

Not caring for what's next

I keep getting reminded of those coming after me

Never wanting anybody to be better than me

It can be very harmful

But who doesn't want it

It gets stronger with a mixture of tyranny and deceit

It gets thicker like smoke in the atmosphere filled with it

Oh who shall I trust!

No one

Only me

I become so afraid to withdraw

I might feel less important,i think

I don't want to know what's next

I just want to be in it

I don't care where it takes me to

I just want to be in it

It takes stronger hearts

To kill these absurd feelings

As selfish it may be

Whether higher or lower

Power is still power
