Fall It Did

Fall It Did

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

a cold snowy day,

the kid the old farts talk blue about
as they drink the warmed-over black
sludge, eat their honey grahams and
play their endless rounds of rummy,
whist and pinochle,

the people are ants marching to the
tune of Dave Matthews criss-crossed
with Mannheim Steamroller,

they buy shovels, salt, sand and snow
throwers instead of trees, sleds, hooks
and lights,

back when Yusuf Islam was Cat Stevens,
he sang about how the world was wild,
and he was right especially when it is
blanketed in white,

brains go stupid,

cars become hockey pucks,

slips and falls spike the emergency
room traffic and s**t like that,

when it falls like racism at a Klan rally,
that's when the real folks worry and the
timely chaos becomes riveting and
tantalizing again,

and fall it did, fall it did

It is amazing how our perspectives change from youth to old age... mostly because people think they have to, they believe they can not have fun and be carefree when they get older... old "society's" standards.

Thanks for this, it really puts the piece into a new perspective.
Those cold winter days leave us with only cards and being in the house. Your poem make me see the coming snowy day a -coming. Here in Detroit. Thank to pollution. Snow rarely stick to the ground. Thank you for the excellent poem.

An excellent double-link there. I guess conifers covered in snow also look a bit like the Klan's peaked dunce caps.

Good point, I didn't think of that. It's more of a reference to an interview I heard on the radio. A.. read more
