The Hardest Part

The Hardest Part

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

the waiting is the hardest part,
tom petty said thirty years ago,

and for chely, thirty years later,
it was when it quit, the suffering
ended for her yet the coming out
was still the hardest part,

every video diary she made
showed the angst,

showed the fear,

showed the heartache of
what she intended to do,

she wrote the book,

she made the record,

she filmed the film,

stunt or not,

propaganda or not,

she did it authentically
even if some think otherwise,

existence is messy
especially when culture
squelches the authentic
for the dogmatic,

and to live authentically
according to her beliefs
and conscience really is
the hardest part,

and chely did it,

ugly or not,

she did it,

and for this scribe,
that is all that matters
