Icarus

Icarus

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

the eagle still flies high,

soaring out of sight due

to the cloud cover and

she never returned,

some say she had the hubris

of Icarus and that's why

she faded away,

she claimed a righteous

exceptionalism that made her

the envy of all the other birds,

all the other nations,

but then the Romanesque softness

around the midsection set in,

she became the tarnished calf

that only demons would eat,

her so-called exceptionalism

is just a grand illusion that

only she indulged in,

if she had humbled herself

before all others, she might

have earned the righteous

title once again,

but that won't happen,

the American destiny has

gone down Icarus way
