Clockwork

Clockwork

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

the hirsute spouse keeps the
Veet corporation in business,
while the fuckhead husband
keeps their marriage on a
highball glass of firewater

the infant knows not their
despair pre-birth, she only
knows that pears taste yummy
when mommy feeds her

what does daddy know?

just how to f**k up
a good thing when
it comes his way

the end of the world
came and went
without a whimper

and of course the
apocalypse watchers
reset their clocks to
sometime in 2028

or whenever the
asteroid is supposed
to hit the planet

right down the line
even if they don't
get it right next time

but clockwork is a
steady, repetitive beast,
and the husband fails
despite attempts to change

changing out gears,
springs, diodes and
microchips is quite
easy compared to
the condition of the
human heart

a lot of times,
it makes its own
mistakes and
blames the others
around them

the end of the world
came and went without
so much as a whimper,
but the heart is always
hurting, always whimpering

let the extended family
have their fun because
the f*****g useless idiot
had to ruin it for himself

In the style of a book about famous poets:

"the end of the world
came and went without
so much as a whimper,
but the heart is always
hurting, always whimpering"

January 2013 was the period of Kenneth S.'s writing where he fully developed his style, which is now termed "the infinity of the everyday". Taking a long look at American society, morality, and consumerism he accurately diagnosed the spiritual malaise of the population.

Thanks, TLK. Thanks for that.
That pretty much sums it up. The phrasing works well.
