Prime

Prime

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet
"

Written in December '21, on my 41st birthday

"
are you geriatric?
are you millennial?
are you the combination thereof?

the real inquest,
are you in the prime of your life?

it is said: age is just a number

but the choices one makes
have long-term effects,
caustic and soothing,
abrasive and mild

the damage is done, by needle or not

am I, are you, are we at the zenith?

now rolling down into the grave,
gone the way of analog television static

not yet since we still
serve a purpose to somebody,
somewhere, someplace

our ages may be prime numbers,
but we may hardly be in the
prime of our lives

but have solace, despite how
dour the discourse can get,
the old dog can learn new tricks

and new experiences can be had,
always be had

and there’s still time despite
how quickly it appears to disappear

prime is a state of mind,
as much as age is just a number

and your own worst enemy is
your very own being

nature is your enemy too,
and so is everything else

press on regardless
