Bad Faith

Bad Faith

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet
"

"
the Irish chanteuse teaches
geography rhythmically,
the flow is surreal, almost
something other real

the mood is pure,
like water that refuses
to conduct electricity

why isn’t this in a hymnal
for a religion that’s real,
rational and reverent?

reverent to nature,
reverent to beauty,
reverent to being,
reverent and respectful
of all creatures great and small

if we carry this great
capacity for good,
why do we maliciously murder,
callously kill any of our own?

blame it on the fall,
the theologians tell you

why exactly are we fallen,
we fell from what exactly?

who exactly has bad faith here?

go forth and do good in spite
of bad faith, do so and the
bad faith will sail away with
the Orinoco flow

the Irish chanteuse wills it so

I love how you weave the surreal imagery of the Irish chanteuse with deep questions about morality, belief, and human failings. The contrast between reverence for life and the reality of harm is striking, and the closing lines offer a hopeful, almost musical release. It’s a meditation on conscience, beauty, and the persistence of goodness even amid bad faith.

Thought provoking piece
