Late at night
is when the demons, the witches, the vampires and the were-things are supposed to come out and haunt us until we s**t our beds but those on the night shift haven’t seen those creatures around... unless those people are medical professionals and they associate those creatures with our very nature they routinely see the events that populate the horror annals we imagine the monsters even though reality is populated by ones that look like you and me but then night is the time when darkness manifests, and the time of day itself need not matter late at night becomes a matter of perception a slave held in a savage’s basement knows not the actual time and place, just the tortures he inflicts shitting the bed out of fear, real, true, actual fear late at night becomes permanently scalded onto the skin called memory when you fall asleep late at night, just remember some monsters are more real than others © 2025 Kenneth The Poet |
