Dark Tunes

Dark Tunes

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

play the dark tunes, Alexa

play the tunes that resonate

with the demon within

the demon of depression,

the one that refuses to see

things as if the top of the

copper matters the most

is this proper therapy?

if so, it’s excellent and

the bank account remains

on life support until the

next disability check comes

the emo bands came out of

the Midwest, and they still

emote themselves crazily

today despite the trend

meeting the same fate as

garage rock

but it’s you alone at the

kitchen table, pretending

that you can solve the

world’s ills without appealing

to religious sentimentalism

but humans are a species

that loves their conspiracy

theories and the martyrs

that willingly die from them

and the dark tunes play on,

because you’re no different

to the effects of groupthink,

you have a superiority complex

that you want to be the way

things ought to be

you’re just a much younger

version of the radio host

on the cover of his first tome,

it’s just you’re not hungry for fame

or are you?

you want your point of view to

be the mainstream?

you want the power, the finances

are secondary to you

you play the morose victim,

and you hope the masses

will pick up on that bullshit

be honest…you want them to

fall at your feet and you’ll set up

guillotines for those that refuse

you’ve reinforced their point,

you can’t be reasoned with

welcome to the hell that you

must live, must contend with

the dark tunes are just the

soundtrack that fuel your

narcissistic madness

a porcupine in a higher hell,

and you’ve echoed yourself into

your own chamber of secrets

it is said self-reflection is the

best medicine sometimes, but

for the narcissistically morose,

is it so?

does it matter?

and like the hundreds of times

before, the ending is left

hanging like a chad but this

meaning from the 2000s, not

the meaning that the internet

uses now without your permission

and the sonic Harveys echo

their haunting nocturnes onward,

the soundtrack of his madness,

neverending the onslaught is

the dark tunes play on, with or

without permission of course
