The Current Thing

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

this is the most imperative thing

since the last most imperative thing,

all things being current at some

point in the spacetime continuum…

and the current hot girl is maybe

composing her newest breakup song

because her man in having trouble

on the sportsball pitch…

yet back when the current thing

was in the days of summer camps

and serial killers, she’d have been

a spinster, dried up like a plum

ready to be turned into crap fuel…

but while things of currency

come and go like your friendly

neighborhood convenience store,

the buildings that house them

have a shelf life on par

with the half-life of carbon-14…

entrenched systems are the results

of entrenched traits and evolution

doesn’t exactly lead to the most

optimal and desirable outcomes…

racism, religion and rulers

come to mind and poetically

start with the same letter

as regressive…

and so the newest current thing

becomes the next election,

the sparring between two fake

sides of the same profit-driven coin…

the illusion of choice is the

radioactive by-product that

lies below the surface…

and yet knowing the truth of

the illusion doesn’t magically

change the surroundings

or the systems entrenched

within it…

no wonder people think they

have revolutionary thoughts,

flashes of deep insight before

the sun rises on the most

current of all things

the morning after…

such a bitter pill to swallow
