The Civil War

The Civil War

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet
"

Written in December '23

"

what if the other side

had won the civil war?

but in reality,

even as time has

waterfalled into the abyss,

the reality of it becomes

more and more apparent…

food deserts in urban areas,

the school to prison pipeline

and the prison industrial complex,

the crack epidemic,

the very economic system this

supposedly great nation

was founded upon…

and…and…and…

don’t forget the far worse

health outcomes and

lowered rate of

life expectancy…

and yet the ones with

privilege debate the real

causes of the civil war,

to this day still…

the true problem was

the supremacy of privilege

all along…

the real question,

did the civil war ever end?

the deeper realization,

there’s been a civil war since

a dozen years after the

Union Jack established

anchorage on the shores

of North America…

when an in-group is uncivil

to any other out-group

then the golden rule

takes on the bitter edge,

justifiably so…

he who has the gold

makes the rules…

and also coins the stupidest phrases,

no war has ever been civil…

and that truth has never set anyone free
