The Year Of The WaterA Poem by Kenneth The PoetInspired by hours upon hours of flood coverage.
The little pink house,
not unlike one John Cougar would sing about, has an inundated cellar like all the others on the shores of the Souris. But, flashback to only yesterday as Hoge Island, in the middle of the waterway that Lewis and Clark canoed and portaged two hundred years before the last signature event, became isolated like a deranged math professor living in the wilds of the next state over. But, flashback to only two months ago when glacial Lake Agassiz made a reappearance, but it happens yearly akin to the yearly flood along the banks of the Nile. And, factor in the future truth about how the demonic pond is going to recreate the Nile event at some point. All in all, the Peace Garden State is a waterlogged sponge, the kind living in a sink full of week-old dishwater. From Fort Yates to Velva, Fairmount to Valley City, Westhope, Towner, Bantry, Lisbon, Kindred, Fargo, Grand Forks, Devils Lake, these are the potholes soaked to the brim, soaked to the skin. This year is the year of the water and there appears to be no end in sight. © 2011 Kenneth The PoetReviews
