Lubricant and Fuel

Lubricant and Fuel

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

after all these years,
drinking cup after cup
of a liquid with almost
the viscosity of motor oil,
one would think they've
gained some kind of
headway against the
back-heading tidal wave

driving mile after
metaphorical mile
eating carb-filled
lunches and drinking
and draining out
caffeinated sludge
from a flesh-toned dragon,
just to stay awake,
just to make it onward
to see another fun-filled day
even though it may be fruitless
in the long run.

Whatever the truth may be, sludge like
that is both our lubricant and our fuel.
