Simple BrickA Poem by Kenneth The PoetBricks, bricks, rows upon rows of quadrilaterals Leveled and staggered to create a vision… Of structure…of rigidity…of commonality Bright by design to those who are dark Just plain wacky to those far off the mark There is nothing whacked to such simple design Chaos is just taken and smoothed into line Through the looking glass, grayness encases the pavement stone Everybody in all forms trod across, in groups or alone All the outer walls graced in a variance of reds Much like the hands that make loaves of tasty breads Hundred of hands, bloody hands, strong hands… Built our culture from such strong demands… The need to expand…the need to want more To break away from the rigidity, from the linearity Such as the jagged edges that adorn of the summit But, what of the layers that create the foundation? Must they be buried by category, by simple label? A bunch of boys named Floyd whitewashed the wall We are only ordinary but that is where we fall The sea of faces are like bricks in the wall Different shades, diverse are they all Whether they are staggered or stacked on top Slightly off-kilter or still part of a rock They stand together to make the structure whole And last longer than anybody can possibly know Without the gray matter, the contributions of those Before us, they hold together those dissimilar rows Trickling down through the halfway seams All the knowledge of our culture and what it means The mortar of the wall is the glue That connects my brick to the rest of you Walk everywhere and apply this lesson United together every day and every session If we stay this way through thin and thick Our resolve shall be stronger than simple brick © 2011 Kenneth The Poet |
