Chalice Lighting

Chalice Lighting

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

chalice,

symbolizing the light

which allows us to see

the other faces in the

ancient firelight and

to heat the gathering

as the sun’s warmth

bids them adieu

for the short term,

and it comes as

no surprise that

the light of the fire

has come to symbolize

mutual respect and

the passing of knowledge

from one generation to the next,

through myth and moral lesson,

truth and anecdote,

the symbol remains eternal

as long as human beings

thrive in this almost

totally inhospitable universe.

may our hopes and thoughts

be considered and remembered

with every chalice lighting.
