Purple Shirt

Purple Shirt

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

another stupid recovery story,

another one-student-at-a-time-
being-saved-from-being-a-drug-
user-type-story,

what will this prove to the ones
that want to take the trip down
to the last point where the
melted-iron core begins
cooking them into hamburger?

he may have seen people
after five days but what if
they haven't seen those people
even though they aren't there?

they are still going to do it,

and they should be allowed to
do it because some have already
fallen so far to not give a s**t
about s**t,

and some have taken the time
and energy to give a s**t,

to be the purple shirt in a sea
of tie-dye clothes and race,

but this hand is told by
another acolyte to pray
that it does,

like shooting a shotgun
from a half-mile away
does a lick of good

if a person doesn't want help then we can't impose ourselves upon them and try to prevent them from hitting rock bottom. one must hit rock bottom to finally want to re-evaluate their life and get help. great poem.
