Lima ZeroA Poem by Kenneth The Poet
Looking down from the summit into the valley
The verdant expanse is wide, not a narrow alley The bureaucrats caved to the pressure of the day Base realignment, the reality that got in the way Out came the control consoles and the tall racks The days of bitter relations were not coming back Left to rot because it's difficult to find reasons To keep them up, no matter the day or season Broken down and far off the beaten path The right place to settle the unkindest wrath A wrath unleashed from the cape of a matador A wrath unleashed from the hammer of the god Thor A wrath unleashed from the pantheon of Greece A wrath unleashed by the American aerial fleets A wrath unleashed by turning five pairs of keys A wrath unleashed by a plethora of paranoid pleas But the groundwater leaked in, submerging the sites So ended the cycle of wading through sleepless nights And a permanent aire of foreboding and tension Thus creating the personal reasons for the contention The great divide over deterrence and restriction It doesn't seem right to pray this sort of benediction But memories harden as the heart grows older The feelings of legacy make feelings of peace bolder Selling them off to private hands was well and good Death is a fact of life, it remains as it should Standing on a summit with a beautiful North Dakota view A headstone to the actions to a staunch and brave few Standing short among wind-driven giants is the hero Here stands the forgotten facility called Lima Zero © 2012 Kenneth The PoetReviews
