Bright lightsA Poem by Gee BeeThe stars in the rural province shine brighter than in the city.
When I was 13
I wanted to be so many things Chef Diplomat Journalist Director I felt like I could be whatever I wanted to be At night I'd look up the inky black sky Stars sparkling brightly Praying to the gods praying to the planets praying to whoever might listen to grant my dreams And let me get away When I turned 21 Those stars shined right in front of me So close to the touch I can feel its heat So near, I can almost taste it But the car rides at night With the inky black sky tinged with gray and sparks Push me back to reality And then I may be staring at dead stars All this time
