At Least the Leaves Were Crunchy

At Least the Leaves Were Crunchy

A Poem by gibletish

walking aimlessly down a leaf covered street

destination? away from myself

too much time alone builds up

sadness, loneliness, stress, fear

wander toward a new direction

maybe the depression will get lost

unable to trace my path this time?

cul de sac means turn back soon

oops, too late!

something familiar is here, lurking

vivid memories sink their teeth in

ripping open wounds still healing

walking hurriedly down a leaf covered street

destination? away from myself

too much time apart from you builds up

sadness, loneliness, stress, fear

wander back in the same direction

maybe the pain will get lost

unable to trace my path this time?

The overlay of feeling-thoughts with street design (cul de sac) makes this poem an intelligent piece. And - it lands on the reader with palpable affect.
Well done
