something familiarA Poem by Gladys Anglestream of consciousnessYou have the smile of the waves at breaking point
just right for careless brushing past but really not so careless, intentional top
and below I see you from the sand grains, washed up barely intact. You make me
rougher round the edges to make up for my center no one really should know
about but you remind me. When I see you laugh I laugh finding everything and
nothing absolutely brilliant so you can see my eyes dancing with your tone the day
we met….The day we met? I thought you cute did you fancy my hair I ask you
veiled but only poorly. But now I know for sure and what I Know I Know you know
how I relate to the world so I don’t try too hard these days to fake
nonchalance. There’s something familiar about your profile like
I know the way it sinks and rises when you sleep"I’ve never seen you sleeping
you wouldn’t let me (had to leave so I let you go). Still the image the line
from your neck to your shoulders I’ve traced before, I’ve brushed with the
delicacy of a porcelain doll detailer. And so you’re familiar to my touch,
skeptical or not we are softly waking on an August morning, knowing glances on
a pillowcase in early hours of the morning. So you know but you’re pretending.
I think you Know. We’ve been here before and you see it in avoided gaze. Look
up and smile just this once. © 2011 Gladys Angle |
