A Journey

A journey of 

a hundred miles

takes me where

the cranes are.

I'd rather travel

to such rare site

'cause caged 

or clipped 

don't fly far.

This poem has a real Zen quality. I greatly enjoyed this journey to see the cranes. All life fades away, and there is only the pond full of cranes. Beautiful moment of serenity.

I think birds are the most truly free creatures when living naturally.

Have you ever found a happy Audubon book, so excited to read it, only to find stories about all the many cruelties these spectacular creatures suffer at our hands? There's stories about ducks that live with parts of arrows stuck through their neck and worse. Every time we poison a mouse that might get eaten by a bird of prey, or we erect new wind farms that are killing the cranes in high numbers, we lose a little bit of that freedom. Recent droughts have also dwindled their numbers. "Scientific" studies that divide a natural flock to take some to Florida, end in disaster when they disappear in the brutal storms. Nothing seems to work. Are we on a perilous path of losing them forever, these spectacular birds? Seems so. Little poems can carry so much behind them. There was a real event in the news where an open truck of fish parts became the deathtrap of many eagles. One of the saddest stories ever.

Yes humans interfering with natural processes, as we develop & grow, more preassure will b applied on all living things...sadly
