My hopes have turned to ashes

And my dreams into dust

As I walk through the parched

Desert of my present

To reach a future

That appears both

Bleak and desolate

The title speaks of finality where matter is concerned, but the poem redeems itself with a phrase "to reach a future" (forward move) even if there are misgivings "appears both bleak and desolate.". A natural phase of down all men go through.

Appears is the key word in this for me.. when we are in the core of that bleak feeling how could we ever believe anything could grow in such barren ground.,.. Excellent write...xx
