The Darkness Within

The Darkness Within

A Poem by hack3673

The Light greets you as you enter the world

So pure, so full of joy

But inside the darkness has already taken hold

You ignore it for now, you won’t hear it

But always it waits within, whispering in your ear

The splinter driving you mad from inside

The voice that beckons to dance on the edge, to balance it all

You age, the Light dims

 And the darkness, it grows

Its close now, the whisperings grow louder

Can you resist them for much longer?

Its shouting now, screaming in your mind to act

To give in, to finally embrace it and fall

The Light is almost gone now, so dim in the approaching twilight.

The Hammer finally falls and the sound is final

You gave in, you touched the forbidden fruit, you fell, the Light is gone

The darkness takes you and embraces you for a time

But it doesn’t care.

It never did.

It was never real.

It was you,

Only you,

YOU.

Kowel, and deeply philosophical.
I definetly like this poem, it reflects how we can be ambushed by our own daemons.
