Jellyfish

Jellyfish

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

some of my poems are about real people and experiences, and some of them are made up or relate to my characters from my stories. I won't tell which. I just hope you read and like the poem.

"

I shouldn't let you get to me

But it's just so easy

All I wanted was your approval

Now you've dug your way underneath my skin

You've buried your ideas deeply

You've unearthed all of my defenses

Until I was naked and vulnerable

Then you latched on and wouldn't let go

Anyone can say hurtful things

But it hurts wrose when it's close to home

When it comes from one of your own

That's when the jellyfish stings the most

I wish I could block you out

Not listen to a single word you say

Maybe then I wouldn't hate myself so much

Maybe then you'd show me some love

Don't forget that we share blood

Even though you probably want to

I shouldn't let you get to me

But all I wanted was your approval
