Forgiveness

Forgiveness

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I ran into you the other day

I haven't seen you since our high school days

Man, you really haven't changed

You're still a stuck up you-know-what

I bet you don't remember me

Even though for twelve years of our lives

I was your punching bag

The one you beat into the ground

Well, I'd just like to return

All the snide comments you gave to me

I'd really like to

But I won't because I'm not like you

Instead I'd like to give you a very special present

It's one that you certainly haven't earned

And one you certainly don't deserve

But here it is anyway

Even though you're not apologizing

For things you did and said

I'll never forget

But I'm granting you my forgiveness

I won't hold it against you anymore

There's no reason to hold on to my bitterness

There's no point to this grudge

But belive me, I'm not forgiving you for you

This is the beginning of new me

Because now I'm finally ready to move on

I'm so glad I ran into you the other day

Because now that I've let go I'm finally whole
