13. Start Over

13. Start Over

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

I don't think we can...

"

Did I ever tell you“I'm sorry?”

I know it's probably too late

But now that we're older and wiser

Maybe it's time to start over

Might I introduce myself again?

Might we try to become friends?

It will start with a simple “Hello”

Then I'll ask you“How have you been?”

And you'll say“Not bad, how about yourself?”

and I'll say “I'm doing better now”

and we'll laugh and talk like the old days

This time around it will be simpler

You'll casually mention your new girlfriend

You'll say “You'd love her, she's great”

And for the first time ever

The happiness I feel for you is real

Did I ever tell you "I'm sorry?"

I know I'm a couple of years too late

But I've grown a lot since then

So maybe it's finally time we start over

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
I love to imagine different endings. For me this would be probably the best, if not the most realistic one. This first 12 poems have been about the same person. I thought this one would be a good one to close this "series
