29. I Miss You

29. I Miss You

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

Best friends should be forever.

"

There’s an awkward silence between us

As neither of us knows what to say

And we laugh to fill in the conversational gaps

There’s so much that I need to say to you

But I just can’t find the words

So tell me what you’re really thinking

Tell me how you’re feeling in this moment

I can’t bring myself to say “I miss you”

I can’t help but wonder, have we reached our twilight?

Can we go back in time and start over again?

The words hang there in the air

Just waiting to be spoken

But I honestly don’t know how to tell you

Because every time I try, I get all choked up

And the words get stuck in my throat

For an open book like me

Who tells everyone just about everything

It’s nearly impossible for me to tell you this now

The words only come easily when I write them down

Maybe someday soon I’ll show this to you

So tell me what you’re really thinking

Tell me how you’re feeling in this moment

I have to know, do you miss me too?

Can we go back in time and start over again?

I can’t help but hope we haven’t seen our twilight

We’re running out of time…

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
This is an older poem that I wrote for a friend of mine who I really haven't spoken to in years. We were so close but we drifted apart and I feel like it was really my fault. I so want to reach out to her and tell her I miss her, but I'm just too afraid that after all this time it's too late.
