31. Grandpa

31. Grandpa

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

I miss you. I love you. I'll see you in Heaven.

"

I never will forget that day

No matter what they say

I never gave up the hope

But now I've reached the end of the rope

There was nowhere to run

My heart felt as though it weighed a ton

I didn't want to answer the phone

I could tell just by the sound of his tone

And that night as I laid in my bed

I asked God to talk to you instead
Because I didn't go to say goodbye

Instead I stayed home to cry

He said he'd known all along

I guess he was right and I was wrong
My prayers couldn't save you

I didn't want to believe that it could be true

I never will forget that day

The sky seemed to turn a bleak shade of gray

And that night as I laid in my bed

I remembered the last thing I'd said

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
It's taken me several years to write this poem because every time I tried it just didn't sound right. I am not very good at rhyming, but I am always trying to improve. I realized that the key to writing this poem was to just write about what happened and how I felt. If you didn't get from the title, this is about my Grandpa who passed away.
