33. Lasting

33. Lasting

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

When love never ends. (A poem for my Uncle)

"

A twenty year old girl

Who doesn't believe in love

Her Uncle set out

To prove her wrong

He'd been married to her Aunt

For a very long time

She loved him for all of his little quirks

And he loved her unconditionally

And he said to her

You can't think like that

You've just got to believe

That someday you'll find it

She was the only one

That he'd ever loved

Now forty years later

The passion is still there

And she said, I want what they've got

But it's so hard to believe

That any love can ever last

Longer than maybe a month

But then she looked at them

Still so happy together

Oh so content with each other

And she believed

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
This one goes out to my Uncle and Aunt. Hopefully he isn't offended by "quirks" if he reads this. All I was implying was that couples who stay together as long as they have have obviously learned to accept the other person for everything that they are. This poem is based on a conversation I had with him while visiting them when I said that I don't believe in true love.
