40. All My Heart

40. All My Heart

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

For the best big sister I could ever ask for.

"

You and I see the world so differently

It seems like we can never agree

And at times I've sworn I couldn't stand you

I know you've probably felt the same

But there was never a moment

When I didn't love you with all of me

Now you've gone away to school

And I'm still stuck at home

I'll admit at times it's hard to cope alone

I spent my life hiding in your shadow

Now I'm forced to carry my own

And I'm learning from your triumphs and mistakes

I know someday we'll have own families

And maybe we'll live in different states

Whatever happens I hope we'll be closer than ever

Because you're the only sister I'll ever have

And I want my children to grow and adore you

I promise I won't let us lose each other

You and I are two very different people

And sometimes it seems like we have nothing in common

And at times I've sworn I couldn't understand you

I know you've probably felt the same

But there was never a second

When I didn't love you with all of my heart

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
This is a poem I wrote for my sister after she left for college. We fought like cats and dogs when we were growing up. I think a big part of that was the fact that we were so close in age. She used to get so mad when we were at camp and I clung to her like my life depended on it! But we love each other and when I needed her she was there for me. I have this fear that we will drift apart and I don't want that to happen. I want us to be sisters and friends forever.
