62. Hoard

62. Hoard

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

It's hard to let go.

"

It started out with a simple clutter

And it only grew from there

She couldn't walk three steps

Without tripping and falling

And breaking a hip

Sweetest old lady you'd ever meet

She'd lost her husband and her son

And the only way she knew how to move on

Was to fill the void they left

With material possessions

Now the states threatening

To condemn her home

It filled with rats and cats

And useless junk everywhere you look

But to her it's everything

And she says they don't understand

They can't take it all away

Even though she doesn't know

What most of it is

She finds a reason to keep it all

But it's not really the stuff she needs

It's really only hurting her

But she can't see that

She doesn't understand

Because in her mind it's all alright

Sweetest old lady you'd ever met

She'd lost her husband and her son

And she'd tried to replace them with material things

She couldn’t see the danger

Until the day she broke her hip

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
My family are fans of Hoarding: Buried Alive the televison show. I personally have trouble watching the show without feeling sick to my stomach (and this is a girl who deals with dead bodies at 8 in the morning for her college class) but I find I can't stop watching it regardless. The hoarder mentality never ceases to amaze me.
