71. Kiss

71. Kiss

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

Never miss a chance to tell someone you love them.

"

She didn’t kiss him on his head

This morning before he headed off for school

She was in a rush to get to work

She had an important meeting she couldn’t miss

She told herself she’d make up for it

She tell him how much she loved him that night

She’d cook him his favorite dinner

And make muffins for breakfast the next day

But she never got the chance to

Because a few hours later she got the call

His teacher asking if he was home sick with her

Because he hadn’t made it to school

And she got this sinking feeling

She called the police to report him missing

A search party was sent out looking for him

But all that turned up was his favorite baseball cap

The days passed by and turned into weeks

And soon enough it was the one year anniversary

Of the day he’d disappeared

And all of the trais  had long since gone cold

And all she kept thinking to herself

Was how she hadn’t kissed him on his precious head

That morning before he’d headed off to school

And how now she never would again

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
I was reading in a magazine about these stories of kids who have gone missing. This is about a boy vanishing on his way to school and his mother's regrets about not telling him how much she loved him and kissing him that last morning.
