77. Footsteps In the SandA Chapter by Haley Lynn ThomasNothing more. She was brought up On the rough side of town With prostitutes on every street corner And drug dealers all around
She played in overgrown yards Surrounded by broken down houses And laid awake at night To the sound of ambulances
Gunfire was an all too common thing Hiding had become a way of life Still she walked to school every morning She was determined to make her escape
Her future wasn't looking too bright She was just a girl from the slums But she had a big brain and even bigger dreams She would defy all of the odds
Her past was like footsteps in the sand They would fade with tide and time They were always behind her Where she'd been, but not where she was going © 2012 Haley Lynn ThomasAuthor's Note
